I joined the Poole Lab in April 2025 as a rotation student on the Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP (BBSRC) before formally joining as a DPhil Student in August 2025. My research focuses on understanding the genetic control of how rhizobia initially attach to plant roots, a crucial first step in forming the nitrogen-fixing symbiosis. Specifically, I’m investigating the role of the ecfE operon using the model organisms Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae 3841 and pea (Pisum sativum). My work is co-supervised by Dr Jani R. Bolla.

I completed my MSci degree at The University of Glasgow, where my master’s project took me to The James Hutton Institute, Dundee. There, under the supervision of Dr Euan James, I investigated the diversity of rhizobial symbionts associated with rare indigenous Scottish legumes from the genera Astragalus and Oxytropis.
