My research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying flavivirus infection of the central nervous system. My DPhil research investigates the neurovirulence of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), using human iPSC-derived neuronal and blood–brain barrier models to understand viral replication, cellular tropism, and the mechanisms by which TBEV disrupts neural and vascular function. I am particularly interested in how viral proteins, including NS1, NS3 and NS5, interact with host cellular pathways and contribute to disease progression. By integrating molecular and cellular approaches with transcriptomic and proteomic analyses, I aim to identify key host and viral determinants of TBEV neuropathogenesis and potentially reveal molecular targets for future therapeutic intervention.
