My research focuses primarily on large carnivore ecology and population monitoring. My DPhil research (2017-2021) explored the status and ecology of leopard across mixed-use landscapes in East and Southern Africa, with the aim of informing population monitoring and conservation management. Since 2020, I have been coordinating large carnivore surveys across southern Tanzania’s Selous-Nyerere landscape, to improve our understanding of the ecosystem's lion, leopard, spotted hyaena and African wild dog populations. This project also features a strong training component to help build capacity among management staff. I am now working with Lion Landscapes and other partners to establish long-term research and capacity-building activities, including through camera trap surveys, sign-based surveys, GPS collaring, and corridor assessments.
