Research Interests

I am a molecular biologist with an interest in gene regulation and plant development. My current project involves using transcriptomics, histological methods, and mutagenesis to study how fruit development is regulated in pea.

Pea plants disperse their seeds at maturity through a process known as dehiscence or shattering. I am especially interested in how structures in the pea pod relate to seed dispersal and would like to determine how those structures have been modified during domestication of pea to lead to the non-shattering varieties that we grow and eat today!
