I am a machine learning researcher and computational biologist interested in how AI can be used to understand and engineer biological systems safely. I am particularly interested in the relationship between biological sequence, structure, function, and evolution, and in how increasingly capable generative models can both accelerate biological discovery but create new biosecurity challenges. My work combines machine learning, evolutionary modeling, mechanistic interpretability, and adversarial AI to study these questions across proteins, viruses, and other biological systems. Ultimately, I aim to help build a future in which AI expands our ability to design biology while our ability to predict, detect, and mitigate biological risks advances alongside it.
