My research interests lie at the intersection of viral evolution, molecular phylogenetics, structural biology, and public health. During my DPhil in Biology at Oxford, I aim to integrate viral genomic sequences, protein structural information, and historical or ancient DNA data to investigate how pathogens evolve across different timescales. I am particularly interested in Bayesian phylogenetic methods and in studying viruses such as smallpox and influenza to understand how structural and evolutionary constraints shape viral emergence, adaptation, and diversity.
My background combines experimental protein biochemistry with quantitative epidemiology. Before Oxford, I studied bacterial protein regulation and proteolysis at Yale and completed an MPH in Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, following my undergraduate training at the University of Hong Kong. By connecting molecular mechanisms with evolutionary and epidemiological inference, I hope to improve the reconstruction and interpretation of pathogen history and contribute to more effective infectious-disease surveillance and pandemic preparedness.
