I am the Project and Knowledge Exchange Lead for the Agricultural Resilience Impact and Innovation Hub (AGRIIH) in the Department of Biology, University of Oxford. Supported by the Strategic Innovation Fund, AGRIIH builds partnerships across academia and industry to advance interdisciplinary research and innovation for more resilient agriculture.
My research focuses on agrifood system transformation. Alongside my role in Biology, I continue to work closely with the Food Systems Transformation Group at the Environmental Change Institute on research into sustainable and resilient food systems. I lead the NERC-funded Agile Science to Policy project ‘Roadmap for UK Beans’, which co-develops a strategic pathway to scale up UK-grown pulses in support of nature recovery, net zero, and improved nutrition goals. I am the Principal Investigator of the ESRC/BBSRC Multidisciplinary Food Systems Commercialisation Catalyst Award project ‘Unlocking the Potential of Microbial Fermentation Platforms’, exploring how precision fermentation innovations can contribute to healthier and more sustainable food systems. My postdoctoral work also includes the UKRI-funded BeanMeals project, where I explored the systemic implications of scaling up UK-grown beans in healthy meals, and the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems project, where I initiated the framework to use secondary data to show the current status of the environmental, social, health and economic outcomes of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland food systems.
My PhD at Lancaster University examined food system resilience through an actor-based lens, exploring how actors respond to disruptions, transformations, and governance challenges across food systems. During this time, I served as the project coordinator and research assistant as on the JPI Urban-funded SIRIUS (Sustainable, Innovative, Resilient, and Interconnected Urban Food System) project. I also hold an MA in International Relations (Energy, Resources, and Environment) from Johns Hopkins University SAIS and Nanjing University, and a BA in Public Administration from Nanjing University. My wider professional experience includes work with organisations such as the US-China Business Council and Clean Air Asia.
