I am particularly interested in developmental mechanisms of crop plants, utilising genetic and molecular biology techniques and the future application of this to current issues.

This DPhil project is mainly focused on investigating the effects of a chlorinated auxin (4-Cl-IAA) found within the Fabaceae clade, using Pea as the plant of interest. 4-Cl-IAA has been found to have strong growth promoting effects in Pea pods.

In particular, further investigation of the contribution of the inactivation pathway via GH3 enzymes to this signalling pathway and the downstream growth promoting effects seen by 4-Cl-IAA. By understanding the underlying mechanisms and effects, this knowledge could be applied to other crop species or utilised within industry for increased yield.
