We are delighted that DPhil student Natalie Duffus has been listed as one of 100 UK environmental professionals who have made the greatest impact in the past two years. The ENDS Power list recognises individuals who are delivering positive change, too often without the recognition their efforts deserve.
Nat is listed in the ‘unsung hero’ category for her work on Biodiversity Net Gain, a potentially transformative national sustainability policy. The policy aims to fundamentally change the incentives within the construction sector – so that new infrastructure regenerates, rather than destroys, biodiversity. Nat’s work on Biodiversity Net Gain has contributed to the scientific integrity of the policy, and her work has also explored how to use the policy to address invertebrate decline in England.
While Nat’s contributions span both research and policy consultation, she has also engaged in public-facing work sharing her research and the importance of Biodiversity Net Gain online and via appearances on news outlets.
Nat says:
“I feel very honoured to have been included on the ENDS Power List alongside so many incredible environmental professionals. I am super passionate about raising public awareness of BNG and its potential limitations and areas for improvement and to have this work recognised by ENDS means a lot!”
