I study population genomics in wild birds, exploring questions relevant to both conservation and evolutionary biology. My main interest is in identifying and quantifying gene flow between populations. For example, I work with undomesticated Rock Doves. These birds are threatened with extinction as a distinct evolutionary entity in many regions, following extensive hybridisation with the feral domestic pigeon. Such research involves a combination of high-tech genomic approaches, as well as work characterising the natural history of the species involved.
