I am a BBSRC DTP student within the Poole Group. My current research is centred around the regulation of the symbiosis between leguminous plants and nitrogen fixing bacteria within root nodules. We hope to unravel how the plant is able to detect a nodules nitrogen output and compare this to the global nitrogen output of nodules to determine wether to continue supplying the nodule with carbon. This sanctioning and the genetic mechanism underlying it will be the basis of my DPhil.
