My research interest is in plant plastid biogenesis. Plastids are important plant organelles, and include chloroplasts as well as several non-photosynthetic variants such as amyloplasts. Recent work in our group showed that plastids are directly regulated by ubiquitination, in a process called “chloroplast-associated protein degradation” (CHLORAD). This process regulates the organelles’ functions and biogenesis. In my DPhil project, I aim to define the molecular mechanisms of CHLORAD, which ultimately may help us to control plastid biogenesis and even influence the maturation and yield of crops.
