I have recently started my DPhil as a ‘Prime Minister Fellow, Bangladesh’ under supervision of Professor Timothy R Walsh in the department of Zoology, University of Oxford. Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), a global concern is the area of our research interest. At present I am working on ‘One Health’ project in Bangladesh under the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI-AMR) programme lining up to combat AMR through a comprehensive approach including human, animal and environment. My current focus is to understand the prevalence, health burden, and mode of inter-transmission of resistance mechanisms in Enterobacteriaceae against the last-line human antibiotics such as colistin. Given the emergence of colistin resistance mediated by mcr-like mechanisms globally, understanding the extent of the problem is crucial to avoid reverting back to the 'pre-antibiotic era'. Being a part of such an excellent research team is a great privilege for me. I believe together we can do great things.
