I am interested in understanding how local adaptation can produce spatial variation in phenology across landscapes, and the implications such variation has for mismatch with interacting species. For my DPhil, I plan to use the established tri-trophic study system of oaks, winter moths and tits in Wytham Woods to investigate the extent of local adaptation at small scales through classical ecological experiments. I also hope to expand the scope of my project to consider how local adaptation in phenology varies across broader spatial scales and gain insight into how this may impact population persistence under climate change.
