Research Interests

My research focuses on the mechanisms used by shearwaters to navigate hundreds of kilometres across the ocean to and from their breeding colonies. In particular, I have investigated the compass cues used by these birds to orient themselves on a global scale. I have conducted analyses of GPS-tracking datasets and experiments to determine how different compass systems interact with one another and with the map representations by which shearwaters estimate their location. I have also published on shearwaters' migratory responses to climate change and on collective behaviour, especially as it relates to learning.
