Research Area

Molecular plant-pathogen interaction.

Research Description

During infection, microbial plant pathogens colonise the apoplast, an intercellular compartment in the plant tissue. The interface between plants and pathogens is an important site where plants perceive the presence of invading pathogens and mount their defence responses. As the same time, plant pathogens secrete a range of virulence factors to manipulate different processes in the host in order to promote infection.

My project investigates a mechanism in which bacteria subvert plant defence by producing an inhibitor of a plant apoplastic enzyme that plays a role in immunity.
