I am interested in policy instruments for conservation, particularly their utility for insects and other invertebrates. My DPhil examines the role of Biodiversity Net Gain policies in insect conservation, as well as the application of metrics for estimating levels of biodiversity. This will involve collecting data on a range of insect taxa, in addition to utilising existing data, and contrasting this with applications of biodiversity evaluation metrics. This allows an analysis of whether estimates of biodiversity net gains are insect-inclusive. Following this, I can develop policy recommendations for the monitoring and inclusion of insects in legislated conservation efforts.
