I am interested in understanding why land plants evolved a unique mechanism to sense oxygen concentration in the atmosphere and when this first happened throughout land plant evolution. My work focuses also on improving crops, in particular wheat, seed germination under submergence using a synthetic approach with the aim of creating plants more tolerant towards the increasing and detrimental frequency of floods.
