I am broadly interested in conservation research at the intersection of marine ecology and international conservation governance. My research in the MCEM and OxNav Groups will first investigate how to improve estimates of bycatch risk of seabirds in industrial fisheries. Using Antipodean albatrosses as a case study, I am working to validate and optimise the application of time geography to calculate the probability that individual birds encounter and attend fishing vessels. I will also assess the extent to which probabilistic estimates of bycatch could increase implementation of bycatch mitigation measures. In particular, I will examine how these estimates can and should inform mitigation-related outreach to fisheries and consumer groups, as well as international negotiations with fishing nations.
