Research Interests

I am a Sir Henry, Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow based in the MacLean group.

My main research interest is the evolution and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by horizontal gene transfer. The horizontal spread of AMR genes between bacterial species, often on plasmids, means that once resistance is established it can rapidly spread. The increasing availability of 'complete' bacterial genomes is giving us plenty of new data to look at the complexity of this evolution, which often involves substantial variation in genomic structure.

I am interested in understanding this variation and linking it to fundamental evolutionary processes.
