Green Economy and Nature Positive Finance

The Course

This five-day advanced training course is designed for stakeholders and practitioners from relevant sectors including:

  • the Finance sector (banks, investment & assets management, fintech, accounting, regulatory & governmental bodies)

  • the Development sector (international NGOs, multilateral organisations, government agencies, social movements & foundations, private business)

  • Nature Conservation (NGOs and non-profit organisations, local councils, national park authorities, statutory nature conservation bodies)

Experts at the University of Oxford will introduce key topics linked to ‘nature positive’, and why these are increasingly important to financial markets.

We will start with the concept of ‘nature positive’ itself: discussing how nature recovery supports a thriving and resilient economy, leading to major associated policy and regulatory developments in recent years. Then we will explore ‘nature finance’, examining widespread efforts to both ‘green’ the finance sector and to proactively invest in nature through market-based instruments. Concretely, we will consider methods for achieving species and ecosystem recovery – from a restoration ecology perspective – and for tracking recovery through time. Finally, but equally importantly, we will look at social issues surrounding the conservation and restoration of nature; including proper engagement with relevant actors, equity, and beyond.

Throughout the week, we will combine seminars, workshops and networking opportunities; focusing on learning through detailed case study examples from the latest practice in the UK.

The course will be delivered by the Department of Biology in the new Life and Mind Building with accommodation at an Oxford College.
