I study visual fields and sensory ecology across multiple bird species to understand how avian perception shapes flight behaviour and mechanics. My work involves running controlled experiments in the Flight Lab, combining behavioural data with machine learning and several other quantitative methods to explore how birds interact with complex environments.

A key aspect of my work includes applying these insights to technological and environmental challenges; I am particularly interested in how an improved understanding of birds’ sensory and perceptual systems can inform the design and placement of wind turbines to reduce collision risks.

Previously, I have developed computational tools to visualise and simulate the bird’s-eye view during flight, with applications in understanding navigation and decision-making. I completed my undergraduate dissertation on integrating sensory biology into environmental impact assessments for offshore wind farm planning in the UK.
