National Tree Improvement Strategy launches with Future Trees Trust

The NTIS aims to unite all those with an interest in tree improvement – foresters, researchers, nurseries, land-owners, conservationists, processors and many others – under one ‘umbrella’ organisation, to ensure that conifer and broadleaved tree improvement progresses with less reliance on public sector funding.

Professor John Mackay is on the steering committee representing academia.

Founded in 1991 at the Department of Plant Sciences of the University of Oxford, the British and Irish Hardwoods Trust (BIHIP) became a voluntary collaboration of many of Britain and Ireland's foremost tree scientists and practitioners from all sectors of forestry.
