John Wood awarded Honorary Doctorate by the University of Saint Francis Xavier

John Wood a Research Associate in the Department has recently been awarded an honorary doctorate by ‘Universidad Mayor, Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca’ or more briefly in English "University of Saint Francis Xavier" in Sucre, Bolivia. It is the oldest university in Bolivia founded by the Jesuits in 1624. It is one of the oldest universities of the new world, ranking as the second oldest university in the Americas behind Peru's National University of San Marcos.

The doctorate was primarily awarded for John’s considerable contribution to Bolivian botany including six years of funding from the Darwin Initiative and also his support of the Language Department at the University in a previous capacity administering language projects.
