Department of Zoology Statement about Trophy-hunting Debate

The Department of Zoology is aware of discussion surrounding a recent publication (and some responses) in Science concerning the conservation value of trophy hunting, which was led by members of the Department. This is a contentious topic, and one for which open scientific debate is important and necessary. Some media coverage suggested that information about sources of funding was kept secret by some members of the department. This insinuation is completely unfounded. We value the contributions of all our researchers to this debate, and have complete confidence in their personal and professional integrity.
