Department of Zoology awarded Green Impact Bronze Award

We are proud to announce that the Department of Zoology has recently been awarded a Green Impact Bronze Award!

The Green Impact Awards is a national initiative which provides simple and effective ways for staff and students to embed positive environmental change. The University has been involved with Green Impact since 2013 with over 100 teams taking part.

Through small but important changes made over this past year, Hannah Austyn has led the Department to this award. Some of the changes implemented in our workplace have included analysing our buildings’ energy and water usage, improving signage for internal communal recycling bins, creating stationary amnesties, encouraging sustainable travel through bike stores and bus pool cards, and working closely with our neighbours in Biochemistry to encourage green initiatives across both departments.

Hannah’s aim for the coming year is to achieve Silver Award status and to work alongside the Department of Plant Sciences in doing so.
