My MBiol research in vertebrate palaeontology focuses on the evolution of neoteny in salamanders, both in fossil and extant lineages, and the constraints its convergent evolution may have on our phylogenetic inferences from morphological data. Using a series of 3D CT models of specimens collected of species across the salamander evolutionary tree and in closely related groups such as frogs, I hope to resolve a phylogeny which is congruent with existing molecular-based inferences of extant lineages, and that which can be used to place fossil taxa within the group.
