I study how anthropogenic stressors impact the diversity, stability and functioning of ecosystems. I am particularly interested in the interactions between stressors (i.e. antagonism or synergism), which make predicting the combined effect of stressors a deceptively difficult task. To better understand the ecological impacts of multiple stressors, I try to develop theory and then use microcosm or mesocosm experimental systems to test these theories.
During my time in Oxford I will be helping to run a large field experiment using a freshwater system of 128 flow-through mesocosms to explore the temporal dynamics of multiple stressors. My other research interests include aquatic biology, ecological networks, community dynamics and contemporary evolution
