As postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Poole’s laboratory, my focus is on engineering nitrogen fixation capabilities on the chassis of bacterial root colonizers, in order to provide a sustainable source of nitrogen for the production of cereals. To do this we combine synthetic biology approaches (modular cloning, high-throughput screening) with root assays and detailed biochemical characterization when required. I am also interested in the metal homeostasis of diazotrophic organisms, in particular endosymbiotic rhizobia.
