Research Interests

My name is Dessy and I was born in Bulgaria but grew up in Japan. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Bioarchaeology, in York and master’s in bioinformatics and Systems Biology from University of Manchester. My PhD topic focuses on looking at the dynamics of Campylobacter and antimicrobial resistance in the food supply chain and across time. I am interested to understand how Campylobacter Jejuni community changes across these two factors and understand what we can do slow down the antibiotic resistance in Campylobacter Jejuni. My supervisors are Professor Michael Bonsall and Professor Martin Maiden. I am funded by the BBSRC DTP program with an industrial partner - the Food Standards Agency. I hope to combine disciplines of bioinformatics, mathematical modelling and experimental microbiology onto the topic.
