My project investigates whether visual perturbations through increased turbidity affect the navigational and movement behaviours of a highly visual coral reef fish, the blue damselfish (Chrysiptera cyanea). This is important because evidence shows turbidity increasing as a result of climate change and other anthropogenic activities, yet the effects of this on fish behaviour and subsequent survival and success are unknown. The results of my experiments will provide insight into how the coral reef will be affected due to the increasing turbidity of the ocean, which potentially projects out to the entire ecosystem and livelihoods of those living there.
