My current project aims to determine whether bumblebees exhibit preferences for particular amino acid mixes in nectars, and whether such preferences might impact bee longevity. Through this, I hope to gain insight into the drivers of plant investment into nectar amino acid production and into the coevolution of plants and their pollinators. To gauge nectar amino acid patterns from a wide range of common UK flower types, I will first use computational analyses on a large, existing dataset. This information will then influence treatment groups for subsequent bumblebee preference and longevity assays.
